Outdoor Dining: Do's and Don'ts

Summer is a great time to hang out with friends and family and an even better time to eat outside! Read on for some Do's and Don't's for outdoor dining, as well as some tips for putting together the best place settings for your event!

So, let's start with the DO's for outdoor dining!

DO have plenty of comfortable seating, with some extra just in case!

For this one, regardless of space, try to make sure that there is enough comfortable seating for all of your guests, especially if you are not all sitting down at a dining table to eat and drink. And it is always a good idea to have some extra seating in the form of folding chairs just in case!

DO have options for drinks and food.

It is very important that you, as a host, are respectful of different diets and personal choices. You should always have a dish (or two) that is vegetarian/vegan/etc so your guests can always find something to eat. As for drinks, sometimes some of your friends and family members do not wish to consume alcohol or cannot due to various reasons. To be respectful of this, lean towards an alcohol free event or have non-alcoholic options if you choose to have alcohol. They will be very appreciative!

Now, some DON'T's for outdoor dining!

DON'T forget bug repellent!

Not only will your guests thank you, you'll thank yourself! Bug repellent doesn't need to be in the form of a bug spray! You can purchase citronella candles (make sure they have bug repellent in them!), clips that attach to your patio umbrella, and various forms. Not only will the candles repel bugs, they will also add ambience!

DON'T worry about starting too early!

Think of it as a late lunch into a dinner! This way you get as much sunshine during the party as possible! You can play games like corn hole, volleyball, or throw the football around. Also, your guests can recline in the moonlight and around your fire pit (if you have one!).

Now, some tips for outdoor dining!

Tip #1: Lean towards acrylic and melamine dishware rather than glasses and dishes! (Less chance for breakage!)

Tip #2: Use LED candles, lights, and lanterns to add ambience to your outdoor space that will also add light to the space for late evenings!

Tip #3: If having a buffet style dinner use mesh food coverings to keep the food safe from pesky flies and other unwanted guests!
